Question: Calling Together or Ripping Apart?
Then He turned to the heaven, which was only smoke at that time. He said to the heaven and the earth: "Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly." -- Sura 41:11
Have not the disbelievers seen that the heavens and the earth were one piece and We parted them? And we made every living thing from water. Will they not then believe? -- Sura 21:30
Here does arise the question: Have heaven and earth first been of one piece which Allah then parts, or have they first been far apart so that He has to call them together?
Answer: According to modern science there is two stages that identified in the Quran in the above verses:
Stage 1: The heaven and earth were one hot gas or smoke (nebula or singularity):
41:11 Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and to the earth: "Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly." They said: "We do come (together), in willing obedience."
Stage 2: The big bang and the separation of this nebula to a cloud that latter condense as stars and earth as it cools down:
21:30 Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?
Note the verse above mentioned also we made from water every living thing. If I was alive 1400 years ago I would be reluctant to make this absolute law.
